Scholarships are available to pay for living costs while studying abroad at several German institutions, including those in Rostock, Erlangen, and Bamberg. More information is available of the German and Slavic Studies website.
The Law School is presenting two free performances of Clarence Darrow’s Search for Justice, as portrayed by Gary L. Anderson. One of the most famous lawyers of all time, Darrow fought social injustices around the turn of the 20th Century. More information is availabe on the event flyer.
Educational Testing Services is accepting applicants for its 2010-2011 fellowship and internship programs. Internships and fellowships are available for current doctoral students and post-docs. Information for the internships and fellowships is available on the ETS website.

The Department of Energy Office of Science is requesting applicants for its DOE Office of Science Graduate Fellowship program. The federal fellowships provide support for students in biology, chemistry, engineering, computational sciences, and environmental sciences. Application materials are available on the DOE website.
The 21st Annual Louise McBee Lecture will be November 12 at 11:00 am in the UGA Chapel. Jamie P. Merisotis, president and CEO of Lumina Foundation for Education, will speak about “Three Critical Outcomes: Why Better Preparation for College, Improved Completion Rates, and Increased Higher Education Productivity are Essential to the Nation.” The lecture is sponsored by the Institute of Higher Education.

The Institute of International Education will host an informational meeting about the David L. Boren Fellowships on Nov. 5 at 12:30 p.m. in 216 Moore College. The Boren Fellowships are awarded by the National Security Education Program to students who wish to study national security issues abroad. Application information is available online. The College of William and Mary will host its 9th Annual Graduate Research Symposium on March 26-27, 2010. The university is seeking abstract submissions from graduate students from a variety of disciplines in arts and sciences. Interested students can visit the graduate symposium’s web site.
Week of Oct. 26, 2009
The Graduate School will host a workshop about the National Research Council’s Assessment of Research Doctorate Programs on Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. in Room K/L of the Georgia Center. Interested faculty can register online.
The Graduate School’s Award for Innovation in Graduate Education is open for nominations until Nov. 13. The award recognizes innovative thinking and advanced practices in graduate education. Any college, school, program or department offering a graduate degree at UGA is eligible.
Week of Oct. 12, 2009
Students interested in the Presidential Management Fellows Program can visit the Graduate School Professional Seminars section for resources from the Oct. 7 seminar. The PMF program attracts students from across academic disciplines to job opportunities within the federal government.
The Udall Foundation is accepting applications for the 2010 Environmental Public Policy and Conflict Resolution Dissertation Fellowship. The one-year Udall Fellowships award $24,000 to two qualified Ph.D. students. Application materials are available on the foundation website.

Teaching Portfolio Workshop for Graduate Teaching Assistants Part 3 will be held on Monday, October 05, 2009, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the Center for Teaching and Learning North Conference Room.

Graduate students can nominate UGA Faculty for the 2010 Outstanding Mentoring Award through October 16, 2009. Download the program summary and nomination form for more information.
Nominations are open for the 2010 Graduate Student Awards for the Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates. Nobel laureates in Chemistry, Physics, and Physiology/Medicine discuss issues of importance with doctoral students from around the world. Deadline for application is Oct. 30, 2009.
